This work is one of the variants Picasso executed in both painting, drawing and engraving on Manet's famous "Déjeuner sur l'herbe". Always aware of art history, and of his place in it, this theme fascinated Picasso in the early 60s : in particular the female character in the background, which Picasso distorts more and more with each re-interpretation.
