Surrealist photograhers like Dora Maar and Pierre Jahan were fascinated by the eye. This staged "portrait of an angel" shows a playful and marvelous vision. Eyes without a face, Jahan dematerializes the human vision. The angel is also a recurring theme in Jahan's work under different iterations...a theme he shared with his long-time friend, Jean Cocteau.
