Arriving in Paris in 1910, Baranoff-Rossiné discovers a radical new artistic scene marked by the heritage of Cézanne. The great retrospective of Cézanne's work in 1907 is regarded as one of the founding moments of modern art, especially due to its influnce on Cubism. In La Carrière we can see a hommage from the young Baranoff-Rossiné to Cézanne's La Montaigne Sainte Victoire of 1890. However, more than a simple imitation, Baranoff-Rossiné adds his own Cubo-Futurist touch to the master's Post-impressionnist style, in a work of great chromatic and formal grace.
